If you’re a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan, then you must have watched this. If you’re not, or you have not watched it, this one good movie you should not miss. Directed by Karan Johar, and written by Shibani Bhatija, this film is starred by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and tells a story of love, humanity and how our religious belief should not separate us from each other.
It was a story full of lessons to be learned and many great lines were spoken to your heart.
It started off with Rizwan Khan’s (Shah Rukh Khan) quest to meet the US President. His quest is to tell the Mr President that his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist. It does sound a bit crazy at first about the story, but the whole film was directed in such a way that you don’t think it is when you watched. It was so carefully developed and filmed so that all pieces come together and made the story such an amazing story of love, determination and selflessness.
Sameer’s death from a racial attack against Islam caused Mandira to break down and she blames Rizwan for that. Out of grief and grudge, she asked Rizwan to leave and when Rizwan asked her when he could return, she sarcastically tells him that he can return after he tells everyone in the US, or better the US President that his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist.
The autistic Rizwan takes her words seriously and starts his quest. During his quest, he comes across many incidents and is even locked out as he is mistaken as a terrorist. The story then develops how he is freed and how his love for humanity touched people around him.
Mandira finally accepts Rizwan back into her heart when she was touched for what he did. This is indeed a very touching and inspiring movie. It educates how we should not judge people from their skin and how men are equal despite having different religion. Allow me to highlight a few scenes here~
In the beginning of the story, Rizwan’s mom educate him on how people are different from each other. She draws picture of two people, one aiming stick on him and beat him, while the other one handing lollipop to him.
She asked him, “Now you tell me which one is Hindu and which one is Muslim”. When Rizwan answer that both look alike, she asked him to remember one thing, that there are only two kinds of people in this world. “Good people who do good deeds and bad people who do bad. That’s the only difference in human being and there’s no other difference”. This ideology is taken the whole way through the story and it really emphasize to us on how religious belief should not separate us from each other.
The other scene is the scene where he prays in a desert. When people travelling with him tell him to pray depending upon the place and the people around, he disagrees and says that prayer should not depend on the place or the people. “It should depend only on your belief”. I like this part very much.
There was one scene when Rizwan pays $500 for a charity dinner with the President. The charity dinner was meant for the fund-raiser for the draught in Africa. When the receptionist rejected his money because it’s an only-Christians event, he asked her to keep it for those who are not Christians in Africa. He said “feed Africa” and leaves the place. It’s a very inspiring act of anyone.
The final scene I would like to share is the final scenes in the film when Rizwan and Mandira meet the President. Mandira is so touched when Rizwan mentioned about her son to the president. When he took out the picture, she in her own thoughts realized how proud she was to have Rizwan. That he has managed to achieve, with his love and humanity, what her hatred could never achieve. She realized her anger threw them apart, but his love brought them together in a way where she can remember her son in a renewed hope. So she vowed to keep this love with her forever.
It is indeed a great film to watch, with many tears to roll. It’s so inspiring and it reminds us of peace and equality.
